My plan was to breastfeed; but that didn’t work out. Instead, for nine long months my breast pump would become my best friend. The following is my tribute to the machine that allowed me to feed my baby.
Ode to My Breast Pump
From the beginning we were best friends,
Inseparable until the very end.
For us the relationship started too soon,
One week in and I knew your tune.
I over produced and you helped with the pain,
Little did I know it was all for my gain.
You would lull me to sleep in the wee morning hours,
Only to be awoken by your overflowing superpowers.
We went everywhere together even if baby wasn’t near,
You even allowed me to enjoy a beer.
From the parking lot before a football game,
To lots more places I could not name.
On an airplane to the Dominican,
Even the pump and dumps I would do again.
So much nourishment you did provide,
More than one baby was supplied.
For nine months you were by my side,
Without you I would have cried.
At the end I had a freezer of milk to show,
I knew it was time to let you go.
The end was indeed a bittersweet day,
But I know you will help me again I pray.
Through my entire pumping journey, I knew I was doing what was best for my baby and lifestyle. It was a lot of work, but in the end all that matters was that baby was fed and happy. #fedisbest
