Why I Decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving

1

I can’t help myself. I LOVE Christmas. I love the decorating, the lights, the color, the giving, everything. I think about it the entire month of October and as soon as Halloween is over, BOOM, the tress start to go up. I have some people who think it’s great and others who think it’s so awful to decorate prior to Thanksgiving. But really, is it that bad to decorate prior to Thanksgiving? Personally, I don’t think so.

We still celebrate Thanksgiving, I am even hosting this year. Does it feel weird to have Christmas tress up? Not at all. We are still very thankful for all we have and have a great time on Thanksgiving day. We still cook the traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings. Does my Christmas tree make a difference? Not a single bit.

Thanksgiving decor isn’t even all that common. You can find a few things mixed in with Halloween and honestly by the time Halloween is over, you could get some great deals on Thanksgiving decor if you wanted, it all goes to clearance!

Sure you can do a cute Thanksgiving themed vignette, decorate a mantel, your table, etc. If that’s what you want to do then by all means you should.

Living in Northern Minnesota makes it even worse for me. We had snow this year before Halloween, I was ready to put up trees that day! But I held back.

For me I decorate early because I enjoy it. I love the feeling the soft glow of the lights gives a room. I love the look of the pine scattered around my home. I love the scents of Christmas candles. I want to enjoy this feeling for as long as I can. Christmas will be here before we know it. It’s my favorite holiday & decorating season and I want to have it up as long as I can.

It also takes me days to decorate. I currently put 4 large trees up in my home. I decorate 2 mantels and every shelf. I go all out and it takes a ton of time to get it all done. Christmas is busy. There is always so much to do once the season is truly here. So if the decorating part is already done, that gives me more time to enjoy all that goes along with the season. More time to bake, shop, wrap the gifts, go to parties, kids concerts and all of the other stuff that goes along with this wonderful holiday. It is the most wonderful time of the year, but also the most stressful. So if I can alleviate some stress by decorating early, then by all means, I am going to do just that. It gives me more time to spend with my boys and do the fun stuff, like visit Bentleyville, look at lights around the city, and of course build snowmen.  Why I Decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving | Duluth Moms Blog

So if you love Christmas like me, then by all means decorate when you want. Don’t let anyone tell you its too early or that you are ruining Thanksgiving by decorating for Christmas. If you enjoy it, then do it. You’ll be less stressed during the 4 short weeks we get between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I'm Missy, mom to 3 amazing boys! Austin (21), Nicholas (13) & Zachary (11). I was born and raised in Duluth, my entire family is still here as well. My husband is also from Duluth. We have 2 of the 3 boys at home and are both small business owners. My husband is in construction and I own a home decor craft business. I have recently decide to take a big jump and leave my amazing corporate job & I will be running my business full time starting Nov 3. I am excited and terrified all at the same time. I have run my business from my home for 7 years. I have seen amazing growth and transformation in this time frame and decided that it was no longer a good idea to work full time while trying to run a business. It was time to make a decision and I had to go with my passion. Life is too short for regret! I am looking forward to having my nights and weekends back and to spend more quality time with my friends and family.
