Like a golden-maned unicorn, a weekend free from obligations feels like a mythical thing; you always hold out hope that it exists, but you’re not quite sure what you’ll do once you stumble upon one. We say fill it with family fun! Stay prepared by tuning in regularly so we can keep you in the loop on the city happenings each month. We will be updating our guides often and adding new listings and events as they emerge. Just make sure to also check the event websites for accuracy and any changes in times or location. Here’s what’s on the calendar for the month of February and don’t forget to check out our Ultimate Guide to Winter! 

February 1 | MAMMA MIA Grand Opening at NorShor Theatre | 7:00pm

Pre-show entertainment, delectable and grand hors-d’oeuvres, live music in the mezzanine lounge, tours of the facilities 3 floors, cash bar and more! This event is black-tie optional, so break out those evening gowns and suits. Tickets: $125/person. Please call the box office to purchase tickets for this opening night event (218.733.7555) The regional premiere of the Broadway blockbuster Mamma Mia! opens the NorShor Theatre with the songs of ABBA and a colorful cast of characters gathering on a Greek island for a wedding. The young bride, Sophie, has invited three men from her mother’s past, hoping to figure out which one is her father in time for him to walk her down the aisle. How will her mother, Donna, react to seeing these men? Luckily, her friends are there to cheer her up in song and dance in this splashy musical, ringing in a new era at the NorShor!

February 1 -4 | UMD Theatre presents: Charlotte’s Web | Thurs., Fri., Sat at 6:30 pm/Saturday & Sunday at 2:00 pm

Wilbur the pig is headed to the butcher, and only the spider Charlotte can save his life. A magical, heartwarming tale of friendship and sacrifice, based on the beloved children’s book. Reserved seating. INDIVIDUAL TICKET PRICES $21.00 ADULT/$16.00 SENIORS, UMD FACULTY or STAFF, VETERANS/ $10.00 STUDENT/$8.00 UMD STUDENT Approximate run time: 50 – 60 minutes. Come celebrate all things winter at Duluth’s Cold Front Celebration: winter activities for all ages, local vendors, games, and much more, February 2nd – 4th, 2018, Canal Park.

A Sweet Event is excited to announce another Story Time with our friends at Legacy Toys in Duluth. Join us for a chance to meet the the dashing Prince Charming from Pretty Princess Parties. He will bring with a bunch of his favorite stories to read, be available for hugs, make a valentine card and take pictures with him as well!

February 3 | Winter Bike Week: Group Ride to Cold Front | Check website for hours

Join a group ride to the Cold Front Celebration kick-off in Canal Park! Guided by Duluth Bikes, group rides are beginner and family-friendly. There will be two rides: one leaving from the Rose Garden, the other leaving from Corner Park in the Lincoln Park Business District. Both rides will end in Canal Park at the Cold Front Celebration. Rides leave at 12 noon and routes will be entirely on off-street paths. This event is part of Winter Bike Week, which celebrates and encourages winter biking in all its forms – whether for fun and recreation or transportation and commuting. Working with partner organizations in the Duluth area, Winter Bike Week will host community events, educational workshops, and family-friendly bike rides to demonstrate that winter biking is fun, practical, and accessible to most people in our community. We hope to encourage everyone to embrace the beauty of winter by offering just one more way to enjoy it – by bike! Free for all ages.

February 3 | Saturday at the RacesRegistration starts at 9 a.m.; Races start at 10 a.m.

If winter weather has you pursuing indoor options to keep your kids active, join us for “Saturday Morning at the Races.”

Children ages 14 and under are invited to attend, completely free of charge.  In addition to participating in a fun run around the indoor track, kids will enjoy meeting mascots from the respective schools, as well as Duluth Huskies mascot “Harley D. Huskie!  Children receive a free t-shirt at each race!   

February 3 – 4 | Duluth Playhouse | The Jungle Book 

The Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) ensemble will be wearing many furs as they play all the classic wild animal characters in The Jungle Book!

Mowgli is a boy raised by wolves, guided by Bagheera, the panther, befriended by Baloo, the bear, and hunted by Shere Khan, the ferocious tiger. On an outrageous and exciting journey back to human civilization, Mowgli finds that the strangest animal of all…is man.

February 9 | Super One’s Valentine’s Cupcake Walk | 11am-6pm

Stop by any Super One Foods Bakery Department on Friday, February 9th from 11am – 6pm for gourmet cupcake’s just .66 cents each!
Tables filled with a large variety of flavors and decorative toppings will be on hand.
Mix & match any variety for school/work Valentines parties or as a fun weekend treat for the kids!

February 12 – 16 | WITC 44th Annual Medallion Hunt | Check Website for Details

The week long hung begins February 12, 2018.

Find the WITC Medallion in Superior’s city limits and win cash! The medallion will be located outside and on public property. WITC will post the clues on campus each day at 9:00 a.m and 3:00 p.m. Can’t make it to campus? Listen for two new clues daily on Mix 108 and B105 at 9:20 a.m. and 3:20 p.m. Miss the clue? They will be posted at facebook.com/WITC.Superior and witc.edu/superior/medallion starting February 12, 2018 at 9:20 a.m.

This event is open to the students and the community.

February 15 | Showcase For High School Seniors | Check Website for Details

The WITC Showcase for High School Seniors is a great way to get a feel for the WITC campus, programs and student life in a relaxed atmosphere.
The day includes a campus tour, WITC Student Panel discussions, FREE comedy show and lunch, drawings for amazing prizes, plus all application fees will be waived for those who attend!

February 15 | Breastfeeding Support Thursday Playdate | 1:30pm -3:30pm

A casual space for breastfeeding families to connect and support each other. Older children are always welcome. Cost is FREE!

February 16 | Father Daughter Dinner Dance | 6:30p.m. – 10:00p.m

Our most requested event of the year…Greysolon Ballroom’s Father Daughter Dinner Dances!  Open to all ages! Enjoy a night filled with dancing, laughing, singing, sweets and savories. Our guests come back time and time again to experience this magical evening with their dad or daughter. Just $25 per person for a truly incredible night with a grand dinner buffet, endless dessert buffet, pictures, cash bar and kiddy drinks and so much more! We have more than one night to join in on the fun as this event has become the most requested night of the year!

There will be lots of enchanting fun with your favorite Mermaid and some of her friends, courtesy of Pretty Princess Parties. We will also have a fun photo area from Misty Pelican photography and craft area with our friends from the Duluth Children’s Museum.  Your daughter will have an enchanted evening under the sea with decorations from Duluth Balloon Co. February 17 | Family Ball |11:00 AM – 2:00 PM

February 21-28 | Parents and Pals Playtime | 9:30am – 11:30am

Parents & pre-school aged children come & play! Coffee & snacks will be available. This is an on-going event every Tuesday & Wednesday, drop in anytime from 9:30am – 11:30am  *This is not childcare: parents must be present to supervise children. This is a free event!

February 22 | Superior MOPS | 6:30pm – 8:30pm

MOPS is about meeting the needs of every mom of a child from birth through kindergarten. Whether you’re urban, suburban, rural, stay-at-home, working, teen, adoptive, special-needs, single or married, we hope you will join us! Our group meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month during the school year at Central Assembly of God Church from 6:30pm-8:30pm. Get superhero certified in our training area and participate in crafts with the Duluth Children’s Museum. The night wouldn’t be complete without lots of superhero fun with special visits from the some friends from the Justice League from Pretty Princess Parties. Moms and sons are encouraged to dress up as their favorite superhero or villan to make the night extra fun. The Duluth Art Institute offers a variety of art classes for adults and youth. The classes cover a range of interests and skill levels.  February 1 – 28 | Eastridge Community Church| Christ Centered Yoga
 
Yoga classes, every Monday night WITH Childcare from Yoga at Eastridge. Learn and explore the fundamental poses and movements with breathing. This class incorporates somatic yoga poses, (basic poses that focus on alignment) gentle vinyasa flow movements, breath work and guided devotionals and Scripture. Great for all levels. Set to chill, uplifting tunes and held in the peaceful Eastridge Community Church Sanctuary. All you need is a mat! Taught by Lindsey Asbury, Certified Yoga Instructor and mama of three. Great for mom’s looking to take time for themselves and meet others in the yoga community. Childcare provided. ($3 per kid
