Earlier this fall, Duluth Moms Blog had a blast helping Marshall School show off their newly remodeled art and music wings for our Moms Night Out. Of course it wouldn’t be a DMB event without giveaways, swag and food! Mamas had fun getting creative and reminiscing about their own school days memories, which lead to a great discussion about the future of their children’s educations.

The event, planned with Bryce and Amanda, also brought in instructors Lucas and Tury to help execute and instruct the art projects for the evening. The staff mentioned how great it was that the moms were getting a first-hand glimpse at how Marshall students learn and create on a typical school day. The instructors like to teach their students techniques, provide the materials, and then let the students freely explore their own creativity from there.

Moms were also able to take a tour of the school; it’s never too early to learn about education options for your child.

Moms Night Out:: The Swag and Giveaways

Time spent working on creative projects rarely ends without messes, at least in my home. Thanks to our local swag sponsor, Crud Cloth, and national swag sponsor, WaterWipes, for sharing products that will definitely help our moms tidy messes at home!

Nanno is a new up and coming babysitting service, we are so excited to be able to use our gift cards for another night out!

Moms Night Out:: The Projects

Before the moms arrived, they registered for one of three projects:

Project One Wheel Pottery Throwing: Moms got to work on the wheel to create an original piece of pottery.  While waiting for a turn at the wheel, many were brought back to their memories of creating with modeling clay in their school days.

Project Two Printmaking: moms learned how to create their own design out of materials, and then use the design in a printing press to transfer their images on to paper. Some placed their images on greeting cards, and some placed their images on wall hangings.

Project Three Painting: moms explored high-viscosity (intense pigmentation) acrylics on canvas, and learn professional techniques. Many chose to incorporate leaves, creating a great piece of fall decor!

Andrea Jang
A lake girl at heart, Andrea is thrilled to be a Duluthian! She lives in the Hillside with her husband, daughter (plus two angel babies that are with them in spirit), and two rescue pups. As a bi-racial and multicultural family, they have hopes and dreams of visiting her husband’s family in South Korea someday soon. Tiny joys that make her heart happy include: doodling, searching for sea glass, coffee with friends, fiber art, plants, a good vintage thrift find, music and great food & drinks. She also finds purpose in serving on the Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Justice (DEIJ) committee at her daughter’s school, and also on City Mom Collective’s Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) committee. You will find her building community, connections and friendships in the northland as the owner of Duluth Mom. She invites you to visit her on Instagram or on LinkedIn.
